MORNING-HOUR DEBATE - The House proceeded with Morning-Hour Debate. At the conclusion of Morning-Hour, the House will recess until 2:00 p.m. for the start of legislative business.

The Speaker designated the Honorable Mark Meadows to act as Speaker pro tempore for today.

The House convened, starting a new legislative day.

The House adjourned pursuant to a previous special order. The next meeting is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on September 12, 2018.

On motion to adjourn Agreed to by voice vote.

Mr. Simpson moved that the House do now adjourn.

ADJUSTED WHOLE NUMBER OF THE HOUSE - Under clause 5(d) of rule 20, the Chair announced to the House that, in light of the resignation of the gentleman from Florida, Mr. DeSantis, the whole number of the House is 429.

The House received a communication from Representative DeSantis wherein he resigns as a member of the House of Representatives effective at close of business today.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE - The Chair designated Mr. Simpson to lead the Members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

The Speaker announced approval of the Journal. Pursuant to clause 1, rule I, the Journal stands approved.

Today's prayer was offered by the House Chaplain, Rev. Patrick J. Conroy.

Mr. Simpson asked unanimous consent That when the House adjourns on Friday, September 7, 2018, it adjourn to meet at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, September 10, 2018, and further when the House adjourns on that day, it adjourn to meet on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, when it shall convene at noon for morning-hour debate and 2 p.m. for legislative business. Agreed to without objection.

The House convened, returning from a recess continuing the legislative day of September 7.

The House received a message from the Clerk. Pursuant to the permission granted in Clause 2(h) of Rule II of the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives, the Clerk notified the House that she had received the following message from the Secretary of the Senate on September 7, 2018 at 1:36 p.m.: That the Senate passed S. 1417, S. 1586, H.R. 302, as amended, and H.R. 6124. The Senate also agrees to Conference with the House of Representatives on H.R. 6147 and H.R. 6157.
